Chief of Staff
Daniel Calarco serves as the chief of staff for the vice president for information technology and CIO at Indiana University. In this role, he coordinates activities that span multiple divisions under the CIO's portfolio. He also serves as an incubator for the CIO's new strategic initiatives until they reach maturity and can be passed on to IU's functional owners.
In addition, he serves as the university’s affiliate member representative to the Open Source Initiative.
Calarco previously served as associate director of the Center on American and Global Security at Indiana University. Prior to this role, Calarco was director of international programs for the non-profit One Global Economy (which he helped found) and its parent organization, One Economy. There he specialized in information and communications technology for economic development, focusing on digital inclusion and broadband mapping in the US Pacific island territories.
Calarco has an MA in Arab studies with a concentration in business and economics from Georgetown University, and a BA in international relations from Brown University.
